The International Thespian Society (ITS) is the honor society for high school theatre students. Membership is granted for work in the theatre arts. Students earn Thespian points based on the quality and quantity of work they perform in theatre. Inductees must earn 10 points.
The Garfield Thespians troupe (#5419) is run entirely by students, who select the program each year for “5 Plays, 5 Days”, “Dramatic Paws” productions, as well as choreographing a number for the annual Lip-Sync Contest at the Washington State Thespian Festival.
Garfield students produce, direct, stage manage, and perform all Thespian productions. Rehearsals are held during lunch or after school.
Each fall, some of the Garfield Theatre students elect to compete in THESPYS! an Individual Event Festival. This is a one-day event held annually at a local high school. Students who participate in the Northwest IEs are eligible to compete in IEs at the Washington State Thespian Festival in the spring. Students must be registered by a teacher, so talk to Ms. Gress if you’re interested. STaGe covers all registration fees and students provide their own transportation.
Each spring the Garfield Theatre students attend the Washington State Thespian Festival. Typically a 2-3 day event hosted in either Ellensburg or Bellingham. The festival is a place to meet other high school theatre students, attend workshops, showcase their work in progress, and compete for scholarships and awards. All students who participate in Spring Musical are strongly encouraged to attend, and more information will be available at the parent meeting for Spring Musical. STAGE works hard to keep the cost of the trip reasonable, and provides funding as needed so all students have the opportunity to go.
