It takes at least 10 STAGE board volunteers to keep theater thriving at Garfield! Does your Garfield student love participating in theater? Do they feel safe and supported in exploring their creativity and imagination? Do you look forward to seeing the fall and winter plays, the spring musical, and all the many other shows the students put on?
You can make a huge difference to Garfield’s Theater Program by joining Supporters of Theater at Garfield (STAGE), the non-profit group supporting all things theater-related at Garfield!
We are a group of theater family members who devote volunteer time to ensuring the success and thriving of Garfield theater.
Several of our theater students are seniors which means parents on STAGE will be graduating from our board in June.
We are actively recruiting new members! No experience on a board or with theater is required. Each person can volunteer in the way that works for them given their talents and interests.
Below are the roles we are recruiting for. Have a look and see what will work for you! If you are thinking about joining, please come to a STAGE meeting to see what it is all about. For questions, getting a link to our upcoming meetings, or to join us, email graduating board president Karen Emmerman Mazner at info@garfieldstage.org.
These are board positions without office responsibilities. At large members attend STAGE meetings, reply to emails with feedback when needed, and volunteer for various show-related tasks as needed and as they are able.
The STAGE president is responsible for ensuring the ongoing stability and functioning of the organization. The president keeps track of the board's action items (checking in and sending reminders as needed), schedules meetings, puts out a call for meeting agenda items, writes meeting agendas, and runs the meetings. In addition, the board president keeps track of the theater schedule, ensuring that plans and volunteers are in place according to the show schedule Ms. Gress and STAGE put together. The president ensures there are volunteers in place for the various roles necessary for a show's success (box office point person, volunteer coordinator, etc.) and takes on other coordination as needed. The president is expected to take their turn along with other board members in handling cash accounting whenever we take in cash proceeds. Ultimately, the president takes on whatever needs to be done to ensure the program is successful - answering the info@garfieldstage.org email account, working to recruit new board members, and other items as they arise. They are also the primary liaison between the board and the theater director. The president role can easily be made a co-president role with the responsibilities being split between two people.
The treasurer role oversees all financial transactions for StaGe. The primary duties include:
This role requires between 2-5 hours per month. The months during the fall play and the Spring musical being busier than the other months of the school year.
The person in the secretary role is responsible for taking notes during the board meetings, preparing them in a minutes document, and sending them along with the action items by email to the Board members. The secretary also publishes the document on the Sharepoint. Board members are required to handle cash accounting at Box office or other concessions where we take in cash proceeds, the secretary is expected to take their turn at that responsibility as availability allows.
The box office point person (which may or may not be a Board secretary) is responsible for keeping the box office instructions document up to date as the procedures and software changes over time. This person is responsible for ensuring that our Booktix operations are ready to go before opening night for each show where we are selling tickets through Booktix. This includes being familiar with the Booktix interface, making sure we have ticket stock available, ensuring that we have the appropriate devices and that the software is updated, coordinating with volunteers and making sure everyone gets trained before their box office shifts. If there are problems with Booktix software, this person is responsible communicating with Booktix to get the problem resolved.
The technical support lead is the administrator of our Microsoft 365 service which provides email and file storage (SharePoint) tools for the board members, as well as maintaining our website, online payments and domain registration through GoDaddy.
